A pensioner from Coventry is taking legal action against her local authority after suffering injuries in a fall.

Theresa Grafton was walking home from her daughter's house last year when the accident happened, the Coventry Telegraph reports.

The 68-year-old spent three weeks in hospital and still claims to be suffering discomfort six months later.

She broke a number of bones in her wrists in the impact.

Her husband, Barney, said: "After the fall she landed in the middle of the road. It could have been a fatality if there had been a bus coming. The kerbs and pavements are very damaged and uneven on both sides of the road."
He added that the fall has taken away his spouse's quality of life.

A spokesperson for the council, which is headquartered in Council House on the city's Earl Street, said that since the incident, the area has been regularly inspected by highways officers.
